Bank History
1965
Ruth Caines of Moncton, New Brunswick, became the first woman to reach the branch managerial level at CIBC. Today, more than half of CIBC's management positions are held by women.

And a strange corporation associated evolution had start parallel with Power Corporation of Desmarais

1967
CIBC started advertising on television with an award-winning series of commercials.

1969 mistake (more in 1970 or, after the person associated or related with the Edward Montpetit CGEP school, and I will referred you to my French doc "Authors history" steel the Bank customer automatic casher service program) CIBC became the first Canadian Bank to introduce 24-hour cash dispensers, then known as "robot tellers."

Today, CIBC has a network of over 3,300 ABMs in Canada, and provides access to banking services through a variety of electronic channels, including telephone banking, Online banking, debit card transactions, and secure Internet banking.

CIBC was the first bank to offer flying banking service in North America, serving communities in the Northwest Territories.

1988
CIBC purchased a majority interest in Wood Gundy Inc., one of Canada's leading investment dealers. Today, CIBC Wood Gundy is a global leader in integrated financial solutions for corporate and institutional clients.

1989
CIBC negotiated an option to acquire 100 per cent of Morgan Trust Company of Canada, and completed the deal in 1992 with the revision of the federal Bank Act. Today, CIBC Trust provides clients with specialized personal trust, estate planning and investment services.

1992
CIBC celebrated its 125th anniversary, and had achieved total assets of $132.2 billion by year-end. Today CIBC's assets exceed $240 billion.

1997
CIBC completed negotiations to acquire 100 per cent of Oppenheimer & Co., Inc., a full-service securities firm in the U.S. It will be merged with CIBC Wood Gundy Securities Corp. to form CIBC World Markets. The combined strengths of both firms will provide clients with a complete range of integrated financial services.

1999
Under new leadership, CIBC redesigned its organizational structure to respond to the demands of the new economy. Businesses are now consolidated into four strategic units: Electronic Commerce, Technology and Operations; Retail and Small Business Banking; Wealth Management and CIBC World Markets.

2000
CIBC continues its commitment to focus its resources, as it exits some businesses and invests in those with the greatest potential for growth and superior returns. Amicus is created to bring together all of CIBC’s co-branded retail electronic banking businesses and expand its network in the United States.

2001
CIBC builds on its Wealth Management capabilities by acquiring the remaining shares of TAL Global Asset Management Inc. and signing an agreement to acquire Merrill Lynch Canada Inc.’s retail brokerage, asset management and Canadian services businesses. CIBC also signs an agreement with Barclays Bank PLC to combine operations in the Caribbean into a new entity called First Caribbean International Bank.
